Psalm 130:5
As I was studying Sarah, from the Old Testament, during my quiet time today, I was referred to Psalm 130:5. As we know, Sarah did not wait for God to fulfill His promise to her and Abraham. Instead she took matters into her own hands and ended up making a mess of things. There are so many times when I feel myself stuck waiting. At least now that I am older, time seems to fly by, which really helps. Perhaps that also is one of God's many blessings. Anyway, playing the waiting game came be very difficult for me. I intend on committing this verse to memory because I know it will help by everyday life. When I read it I got inspired and hopeful. I was reminded, once again, that God knows all of my needs and He has an amazing plan for my life. If I can just stop and wait and put my hope in His word, then I will recognize His voice and see His plan. I know this sounds corny, but after reading this verse I got excited to start waiting! We'll see how long that lasts :).
I am thankful for...
1. the way Michael gets so excited when he goes to look at the fish.
2. getting to go downtown with some friends to visit Cassie in the hospital. We even got to see her new baby girl, Reece. I tried to convince her to give Reece the name Christine as a middle name. But I am not sure she fell for it.
3. getting to my cycle class almost on time :)
4. Todd being soooooo helpful this morning. He got both of the boys up and dressed. Then he put away all of the clean dishes and washed the breakfast dishes. He knew I was in a hurry this morning and he pitched in. Thanks so much babe!
5. my mom leaving a cool message on my blog. I also enjoyed our phone conversation today. I like it when she calls and asks to see the boys on the video camera. We had lots of fun prancing around for her.
6. God giving me so many imperfect people as examples in my life. The collection of mistake makers found in the bible encourages me to recognize that God uses warped and tainted people to do great things.
7. Todd walking in the door right this very moment!
8. the fun play time the boys and I had today.
9. sweet, loving emails.
10. the yummy dinner we had tonight!

7. Amy picking Philippians 4:6 to memorize this week. It says, " Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." I remembered this verse when I opened my iphoto and realized that my photos were gone. Instead of being anxious about this, I will calmly wait to see if Todd can fix it when he gets home.
8. the yummy chocolate chip cookies I made today!
9. the time I had to sit down and enjoy watching my boys play together. They already seem to enjoy each other.
10. the gentle whisper of God's love that I can hear throughout my day. That is the best part of every day.

1/12/06
1. Mike and Amy having the perfect backyard for toddlers to play in. Michael and Caroline had such a fun time running around and playing on the swingset. Of course, cleaning the doggy poo off his shoes was gross! As I was watching them, I couldn't help feeling like Michael does"t need me as much anymore. He can go and run about on his own now, kind of :)
2. the great cycle class that I took today. It felt really good to sweat again.
3. Amy encouraging me to train to run...she even loaned me a good running book...and she is going to help me buy a new pair of shoes.
4. Richard the tree-guy being so patient with crazy me.
5. my sweet boys who are so easy going and well-natured. I love it when Michael stops what he is doing, looks around for me, and then runs over to give me a kiss, only to quickly return to his activity. It warms my heart.
6. the look on Daniel's face when I tried to convince him to eat pureed zucchini and millet. That was definitely a no-go!
7. seeing a friend from church at the YMCA today!
8. sweet Todd who is waiting for me upstairs, trying desperately to stay awake.

1/11/06

4. the very sweet teachers at Michael's school. I feel so good about sending him there, and he loves it besides!

6. the fantastic quiet time I had this morning during Daniel's naptime. I so enjoyed reading from the bible, studying His word, and applying it to my life. God's word refreshes me and strengthens me.
7. all of my friends. Never before in my life have I had so many nice and sincere friends with whom I connect on a regular basis.

Good Morning everyone! This is my sister-in-law, Carey, and I just got off the phone with her. I called her because I was sad, and I knew that talking with her would make me feel better...and it did. She listened to me, sympathized with me, and counseled me. She is a wonderful friend and a beloved sister. I hope she knows (she will now, if she didn't before) how much I love and appreciate her. God has truly blessed my life by giving me Carey.
I am thankful for...
1. my wonderful husband who loves and respects me. Even when his work schedule is jammed and he has a billion things to do, he stops to call me to see if I'm okay. I love him so much!
2. watching Michael run into his classroom and give Miss Gina a big hug today! It is such a blessing that he enjoys going to nursery school.
3. my brother-in-law (Carey's husband), Steve, who is a wonderful man. He and I are very similar in a lot of ways and I so enjoy his company.
4. the long, calm nap Daniel is taking right now.
5. once again, the beautiful weather today!
6. the yummy pot of coffee Todd made this morning.
7. the long, hot shower I took this morning.
8. the pretty pansies we have in our front yard. Todd works so hard to take care of what God has given us.
9. the lunch-date I have with a friend today.
10. knowing that God is very much aware of everything that goes on in my life, and that He wants me to come to Him for love and attention. I am so glad that He has a plan for my life (Jer. 29:11). I can't go wrong with Him in charge!

Here is a picture of Michael and Todd's mom, Anu. We had so much fun visiting her in Cleveland for a week and a half. She showered him with love and kisses...and of course Christmas presents. Michael adores her!
I have decided to take a break from the devotional-type writing for a while. For those of you who enjoy reading daily devotionals, I encourage you to check out the Proverbs 31 ministries and sign up for their daily emails. I think they are fantastic!
www.proverbs31.gospelcom.net
I had a really nice conversation with Sarah tonight. She told me all about the changes Ben is experiencing and I talked about how much fun we would have taking the boys to Disneyland. I am so lucky to not only have one, but two, sisters-in-law that I love and adore. I can't wait to go to California and spend time with everybody.
I am thankful for...
1. the beautiful day God gifted to us today. The weather was gorgeous, the sky was blue with big, puffy, white clouds, and the temperature was just perfect. I love days like today.
2. Michael not getting too hurt today when he fell at the park. I felt so bad for him, especially when the goose-egg started to form on his forehead. :(
3. Todd doing the dishes again...this is the gift that keeps on giving.
4. the four of us spending a good 30 minutes sitting in Todd's civic and watching Michael play with all of the knobs. Michael would spend all day in a car if we'd let him.
5. unbelievably good spaghetti.
6. the Panthers winning their football game today.
7. the five 5th and 6th grade students I had in my Sunday school class today. I have so much fun with those kids. I love talking with them about God, His will for their lives, and what's going on with them.
8. the spur of the moment phone call I had with Anu today! I am so glad she had a fun time shopping yesterday.
9. getting all of my ironing done. Not only am I thankful for this, but it is an answered prayer.
10. my sweet boys, who can be screaming at me one moment and kissing me the next. Thinking about it makes me laugh.

Genesis 11:9
Now, if I am remebering correctly, mankind began to embrace the idea that man could be just as magnificant, if not more, than God. We started building a tower that would reach the heavens. We did it so that, "we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:4). Of course, God stopped that immediately!
The reason why this verse comes to mind is because we are watching the movie Crash. So far, it is very good, dealing with a variety of race related issues. As I continue to watch the movie, it becomes very apparant to me that the base line problem is lack of communication. Not being able to understand other people causes confusion. This happens in society as a whole, between friends and family members, especially between spouses and parents and children.
Confusion does not happen with God, however. Our Lord is a, "God of truth," (Psalm 31:5) and when we know the truth, "the truth will set [us] free" (John 8:32). I need to continue to focus on the truth and Godly living..all the time...in everything I do.
I am thankful for...
1. my every need being taken care of as promised by God. He even frees me from the needs that I think I have, but don't really have.
2. getting errands done today.
3. no bills in the mail today.
4. being able to laugh, even though I get very frustrated, that both of the boys insist on taking off their socks and shoes each and every time we get in the car.
5. Sarah's brother being hired on LAPD.
6. Todd being so diligent at watching out for our safety.
7. the prospect of going overseas this summer.
8. that my little family will go to church together tomorrow.
9. Todd coming up with such a great idea for dinner. He continues to add flare to my sometimes run-of-the-mill meals. It is amazing what a little gorganzola cheese, shitake mushrooms, and parsley can do. God really knew what He was doing when He brought the two of us together.
10.
Need I say more?

1 John 3:1
When I stop to think that our (mine and Todd's) love for our children (Michael and Daniel) does not even compare to God's love for His children, I find myself once again amazed and humbled. How wonderful it is to be a child of God! He has lavished us with love in so many ways. It is very disheartening to see that so many people go about their everyday lives indifferent to the love that has been bestowed upon them. And I, too, am guilty of doing this more times than I would like to admit. As children often disregard their parents' guidence and love, we fail to embrace God's love for us. And I don't know about you, but knowing that I have done this countless times frustrates me. However, I am delighted in the promise that God's love never fails, and that I will always be His precious child.
I am thankful for...
1. spending time with some wonderful friends today, talking about being thankful, families, God's love, children, and so on. It is so nice to have Godly friends.
2. Michael looking at me and saying, "Hi MOM!". Oh my gosh! I just about cried. My little boy is starting to talk to me.
3. the very yummy dinner Todd and I had tonight.
4. the blessing of a nap I took today on the couch.
5. talking with Holly about her kids. She sets a great example of fun-living that is focused on God's love. And even though her kids don't think she's cool, her friends do!
6. that Daniel's muscles are getting stronger and stronger. His daily growth amazes me. The time is going by way too fast.
7. Todd's ability to stay focused when he should rightly feel overwhelmed. I admire his positive attitude and sense of humor.
8. that Mark and Sarah found a house to buy and that they are renting their other house to family.
9. for both boys eating all of their dinners tonight...without a fight.
10. the love that God has lavished upon my life. It is unceasing and unfathomable...yet very real.

Colossians 3:15
I'm back! It feels good to be blogging again. I got so out of habit after just one day! Maintaining a spiritual life is just like training for a sport. You have to keep training, or else your muscles begin to atrophy. While it is true I had a wonderful time in Cleveland, being out of my regular routine really effected my spiritual exercise. BUT...I am back on track now, and ready to continue with my "workout".
Happy belated New Year's to everyone. I am choosing Colossians 3:15 to start off this year for three reasons.
1. I love how the verse starts off by saying, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts..." I know a lot of people who had a very "unpeaceful" year last year. There were times when I experienced strain and difficulty, and having the peace of Christ rule in my heart made life's challenges conquerable. What a blessing it would be if the peace of Christ ruled in everyone's heart. That is my first New Year's "wish".
2. Next, I love that we are referred to as, "members of one body [who are] called to peace." Imagine what the world would be like if we all conducted our lives as if we were members of one body focused on peace. Just think what it would be like if our own families acted that way. What a gift that would be! That is my second New Year's "wish".
3. Lastly, the verse closes by saying, "And be thankful." Sometimes, it is hard to be thankful. But, I find that when I am focused on being thankful in all circumstances (1 Thes. 5:16-18), I am happier, more peaceful, and more content. Imagine what it would be like if people were thankful. Instead of the complaints, we'd hear compliments. And instead pessimism, we'd hear praise. I recognize this needs to start with me! That is my third New Year's "wish".
I am thankful for...
1. having a fun time watching my boys play with Andon today.
2. Todd being so wonderful with the boys, especially Michael, and the way Michael adores everything Todd does.
3. having so many blessings in my life that I am sure I will never run out of things for which to be thankful.
4. the big pot of chili on the stove.
5. reading my wonderful sister-in-law, Sarah's, blog everyday. She encourages me and exemplifies Christ's love in amazing ways.
6. everybody starting to feel better after having colds.
7. watching Daniel pull himself up to standing in his crib...it brought tears to my eyes.
8. Michael learning new words, like school, hot, milk, let's go now...
9. my wonderful neighbors who let me and the boys play in their huge backyard. I think we enjoy their yard more than they do.
10. the firefighters in my community. They are true heros.
