Tomorrow, my friend, Amy, is coming over and we are going to review some of the scripture we have been memorizing. We purposely pick verses that currently apply to our lives which we can use as guidelines for Christian living. Since we have started, I have noticed a change in how I have been thinking and acting (of course, non-Christian living seems to make its way into my life on a regular basis, but that is another topic entirely :) A while ago, we decided to memorize Psalm 119:11-16, which says:
11 I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, O LORD;
teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Verse 16 struck a cord with me today as I was reading my scripture journal, waiting for Michael to be finished with speech class. Do I really "delight in [God's] decrees"? Okay, maybe some of them, and I might even say a lot of them, but ALL of them? Yikes! I am not so sure about all of them. What about the decree that says, " 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD" (Leviticus 19:18) I am a super grudge bearer, and does neighbor include mean people who cut me off of the road, family members who have let me down, friends that don't call, etc... (I recognize, sadly, that I have been these people in other people's lives!)?
And what about the part that says, "I will not neglect your word"? I read my bible more now than ever before, however I am still guilty of neglecting His word.
I could go on and on about this...but I won't. Once again, God provides a solution to the whole "delighting in His decrees and neglecting His word" problem. The answer is clear and right in front of my face. Could it be that if I just reverse the verses...hmm...What if I stopped neglecting His word, and instead, embraced His word into every aspect of life? Would I then begin to delight in all, and I mean every single one, of His decrees? I think we all know the answer. God always provides a solution, escape, way out...whatever we need. And that answer can always be found in His holy word. I encourage everyone to start meditating on and memorizing God's word. It will change your life!
I am thankful for...
1. having Amy, who continually "sharpens" me. (Proverbs 27:17)
2. Todd, who works hard and maintains great integrity.
3. the great pictures my sisters-in-law send me of my nephews, James and Benjamin.
4. be given God's word, so that I can "meditate on His precepts".
5. finding a babysitter.
6. having a very relaxed schedule which makes it possible for me to fill in here and there as people need me.
7. Louis Armstrong...great music.
8. Michael's haircut looking really cute.
9. Pizza Hut
10. having fun making Daniel's food.
